Now hear this: Don't swallow your earbuds while sleeping

Ought those little wireless earpods have mitten clips for overnight wear?

You wake up one morning and while you’re making the bed you realize you are once again missing an earbud that you’d worn last night while drifting off to sleep. But nevermind, you’ve got to get outside and shovel all the snow that landed overnight.

That’s pretty much how it went down with a Boston-area man, who didn’t realize what had happened until he went inside again to get a drink of water and found that it wouldn’t go down his throat.

His son thought perhaps he knew where the missing AirPod was. So dad Brad Gaulthier had an x-ray — and then an emergency endoscopy. But, oddly, he hadn’t really experienced too much discomfort despite having had a hard plastic object lodged for hours in his gullet.

He cautioned others not to sleep with their earbuds because “you never know where they’ll end up.”

Gauthier told NBC Boston 10 that “We have a six-month-old baby, so we don’t watch TV at night in the room, so I always end up wearing my AirPods.” With Valentine’s Day around the corner, maybe he should ask for actual old-school headphones for bedtime.
